Default Pc Shuts Down When I Insert Cd/dvd

Can Anyone Help Afew Days Ago My Pc Just Started To Turn Off Whenever I Put A Disc In I Fiddled With Some Wires Inside To Make Sure They Wont Lose And Know I Can Play Music Cd's Only And Instead Of Shut Down Complety It Now Restarts. When I Try To Burn Anything To Disc It Crashes I Cant Even Get A Disc Of Family Pictures To Work Is My D: Drive Dead? Or Is It An Internal Motherboard Problem. If I Buy A New Drive Will It Just Have The Same Problem? Please Someone Help

enter control panel/system/advanced and start up and recovery. Untick auto restart you will now get a BSOD. You could have a dodgy IDE/Sata cable. Check event viewer (right click my computer / manage / event viewer) look around system for problems .I am assuming you are on xp?If you are on vista the event viewer and control panel will be slightly different but the options are there
