Question About burning DVD formats

I have a hammer storage DVD burner and it can burn on 4.7 or 8.5 GB disks. Never tried this nor messed around with it, but if i burn a few files that are .mov, .avi, & .mpg, can people watch them on a normal DVD player or just on a computer. If not what do I need to make it viewable to people with only regular DVD players?

I'm sure there are many good programs out there to do what you want. I use Nero. Below are a couple of places with info to get you started.

BurnWorld - Blu Ray & DVD burning software and hardware info! DVD copy, Video Converters.

DVD-Burner.ca - DVD Tutorials and Articles - Learn how to copy, rip, convert and burn DVDs

The process may require recoding.

Thanks for the reply. So if I just burned say like five files in the .mov, .avi, and .mpg formats and then put that DVD in the non-computer player, it would not even recognize it?
One other thing: Is there some kind of way to make a menu so when you put in a DVD the computer and other players could choose which show they wanted to watch?
Thanks again

It depends a lot on the brand of the player...and how new it is.
Most newer machines are supposed to recognize most burned discs...and many file-types--
now they've thrown in dual-layer DVD's because there is more capacity-- and that's what the studios use.

The only way to find out is to try it, unfortunately

EathanElf again Ih8bills has beat me to the punch. He is quite correct though. Oh and please forgive me for leaving that info out in the first place.
