We have a Tutorial for this...

...please note... you will be doing a Repair Install NOT the repair console...
when setup asks if you want to install Windows ...Press "y" and Enter...
Setup will detect your current install and ask if you want to repair the current installation
click on Yes... it will look a bit like normal setup-- but will run through much faster.
Do not be afraid-- it will not damage your files... it will just repair the corrupted ines in Windows.

hi ya
thanks for all your help so far.

i found my "product recovery cd-rom for xp2" but it would not work same prob as restarting before but i have also got a "xp service pack 1 including consumer range drivers" disc which i have not tried yet! What do i do?

But the pc is running a hell of a lot quicker so i might just skip that bit

Your help is greatly appreciated

Steph

OK -- no you can't do a repair install from a recovery disc -- those things are useless-- unless you want to wipe your drive + start over...they are limited-use on purpose...PC makers can't sell more PC's if you can fix them yourself.

allow me to review this thread-- it's been a long week.

OK -- now we have a brand-name...

Evesham is still there online ? http://www.evesham.com/default.asp?e=

I need you to find the exact model number on that PC --so I can look up the hardware specs.
