Well at the moment you seem to have the full suites of AVG, Norton and ZoneAlarm running at the same time for your security software (Firewall and Anti-Virus).

Spybot S&D, Windows Defender, Zone Labs Spy Blocker and something else I don't even recognise for anti-spyware.

You should ideally have 1 firewall, 1 anti-virus and 1 anti-spyware running at any one time. Certainly not all these, because they will and do conflict with each other, and this is what I was finding in the dump/log you posted earlier.

I would suggest the following actions:
- Keep AVG. It's free and certainly better than Norton.
- Uninstall Norton and Zone Alarm.
- Keep only one anti-spyware application of you choice running at any one time. For example, Spybot S&D. Just run the application periodically to check for anti-spyware. You don't have to uninstall them, just make sure they are not all running in the background. You can normally do this by going into the application itself, and unticking the option to automatically start when windows starts.

Your PC must take an age to start up?

Hi again

Ok i have uninstalled norton av and firewall, windows defender, zonealarm, an old version of spybot that i found, zone labs spy blocker which i do not even remember being installed on there.

I haven't tried burning a cd yet but when i restarted the pc after uninstalling each of the above i had the same prob as before (screen turned off but lights on the drive still on and power/hd lights on) i don't know what to do

Thanks

When did it restart, did you manually restart it? Is it starting up at all?

after uninstalling it came up and said restart the pc for the changes to take effect

if i shut the pc down it's fine just when i restart it happens and i have press the power button for 5-10secs to switch it off then when i press the power button again the lights come on and the lights on the drives flash so i have to repeat the process again then it will come on.

Is there anything i can do to see what is causeing it

If it was the combination those applications that was causing that, then they may still have resided in memory, which is why it would have asked you to restart in the first place. Are you able to try and restart again now that those applications have been uninstalled to see if it still happens? and, also test your CD. What version of Windows are you running?

I'll also transfer this thread to the HJT Security team since you already have a log posted above, we might as well make sure your clean of any malware whilst we at it.

Security Team: HJT log can be found in post #6.

Could also be a hanging app at shutdown...
But Mad is right about having the logs checked... just in case.
