Since reinstaling windows xp after a nasty virus I can't burn cd or dvd. I have tried media player, nero 7, and windows. Can't burn data or music or video. Media player and nero will start the burning process but fail every time. If I use windows to try to backup photos it always tells me that there is no disc in the drive or that blank discs are full or damaged. The problem was originally with the cdr drive that came with the computer but I have just installed a LG GSA-H55N dvd rewriter with the same result. Help!

Triple check that you have seated the IDE(?) cable properly, both at the motherboard and optical drive end. Also, try another cable..we have seen such a simple thing fix these types of errors many times here
