My problem is my comp. doesn't reconize dvd/rw or-r discs when i try burning a dvd to them. My guess is I need a driver is this correct ?

Is this a trick question or are you serious??
If you're serious, yes, of course you need a DVD writer.

Sorry?I am confused Gnat?
Do you have a DVD-R installed on your computer?No?Of course you need a DVD-R hardware installed on your computer and some burning software.
