Default [Pending] SONY DVD-RW not working right...

Hello!
My PC is failing me again.
I've been happily burning cds and dvds since i got my pc and using any software at all to do so without any problems. I recently re-installed windows and now when i insert a dvd+r the description of the dvd-rw drive changes from "DVD-RW Drive" to "CD Drive" and doesnt let me burn anything. I have two drives exactly the same and both do the same thing.
Its not the first time i`ve installed windows in my own so I cant think of anything i might have done wrong. I've checked the properties of both DVD-RW drives and they both have the "Enable writing" box ticked, even when a disc is inserted and the drive is renamed to CD Drive.
Thanks for any replies

When you reinstalled Windows, did you reformat the C: drive and start from scratch?

Do you require additional assistance with this problem?

I managed to work around the problem.
Another problem has arisen though...
I want to make a backup copy of a cd to use in my car. However this particular CD causes a BSOD when i try to use it in my pc. I've tried several other audio CD's which all work ok.
Trying to read the cd results in a MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION bsod :-(
any ideas?

And yes Gandalf i formatted C and repartitioned and stuff.

If all your other CDs work, you may just have a bad CD.
Have you tried to reburn using a new CD?
