Hi to all and apologies if this is in wrong section as its my first post .I am trying to help a friend of mine who has a problem on his Pc which is a compaq and i cant give any more details than that about his system.
He has this problem in that he has a dvd re writer but for some time now the DVD side of it does not function ,the cd side stiull works fully in respect that he can still play and write any kind of cd but when you put a dvd in the drive nothing happens it does not read anything being there .Thats the best i can explain so any help in simple terms please would be appreciated .

My money would be on the fact that his DVD laser had gone. It's happened to me in the past...try the drive in your PC just to be sure.

Are there 2 lasers then ,one for cds and one for dvds?
