I've also asked this question in the support forum for teh software I'm using - DeepBurner Free - but I need a rapid answer and by hitting both places I'm hoping .....!

Anyway, problem is I want to wipe my HDD and start afresh and usually I back up to plain old 4.7Gb DVD's. However, I have recently purchased soem D/L DVD's as my drive (Pioneer 110D with ROM revision 1.41 (latest)) is capable of and thought I'd give one a whirl.

After approx 1.5hrs the DVD was ejected and flippinmg it over shows that indeed some burn activity has taken place (dye colour change) so I re-insert and go to check but it just shows as blank in explorer. Opening a cmd shell and trying to change to the drive gives me an 'incorrect funcction' - I've even tried a reboot with no joy.

OS is XP sp2 with all patches up to date.

Ideas anyone?

EDIT: Ohhh - it won't necessarily help, but I have just checked the DVD in my MAC Mini and it reads just fine and I can open various files. Also, same discs but a different app (DVD film copier app) has successfully made backups of some of my more frequently viewed DVDs in the recent past.

Sorry for the late reply...I'd say try another program...as 1.5hrs is a very long amount of time...

Turns out - eventually - that the software tech guys responded to advise that they don't support DL burning just yet. That's planned for version 2 - wish they'd said that in clear on tehir website.

Software is/was: Deepburner.
