Ok well I finally got around to taking it in today and the guy tells me it doesn't need drivers. So then I asked him why it wouldn't burn and he basically told me he didn't know. He put in a DVD and was able to burn a couple of the Vista music tracks, burning it straight in Windows. Unfortunately for me, that means that he has an excuse to not give me a new drive (notice how I use the word excuse, rather than reason). So then I tell him it will not work in any other program and then he goes off about how it's all Vista's fault, even though I can do all this with no problems on my desktop. Then he just started giving me a bunch of sh*t and refused to help me anymore and said there was nothing that could be done so I just left. I honestly can't believe I have to deal with this bullsh*t.

So, what do I do now? Should I just scrap the drive and buy a new one hoping it works? I'm pis*ed off that I'd even have to do that considering this is a brand new laptop. Ugh.

Personally, I would fight it probably all the way to the corporate offices of the company. I am like that but it is your choice on what you want to do.

Well a friend of mine has the same line of laptop that I have (althought a little older). His drive fits in mine so we decided to try it out, and it burnt without a problem. So, there's no arguing that it's a problem with the drive. I'm going to go back in talk to the manager about this and I will definitely not be leaving without a new drive.

Which one should I be getting though? When they replaced it the first time they gave me a different drive and that caused problems so I want to get the EXACT drive that came with my computer. It's an HP Pavilion 8320CA. My friend has the same line but it's not the exact model and the drive is different (doesn't support lightscribe and stuff), so I dunno if its possible to find that out.

The original was CD/DVD+-RW +DL with lightscribe. Not sure about the speeds but I'm pretty sure its 24x CD, 8x DVD.

Thanks for the help.
