Default are all USB cables the same ?....

Hi all, i have an external DVD Writer drive, a pretty new one, today i rushed a CD Audio creation job i had to do, before i went to work, up popped the message "This device can operate faster etc." knowing my computer is USB 2 and so is the DVD writer !, so the only part that had changed from previous uses when this message didnt POP UP !, was the cable !!!!.

I always thought the cables hadnt changed since the availablity of USB 2, but i guess i am wrong.

Hi,

It may be that your PC has (for what ever reason) a mixture of USB 1 and USB 2 sockets. Did you try the plug in another USB port? Do you get the same message?

well it shouldnt have both types of sockets, it is an Acer Aspire lap top, with a label that states "4 high speed USB 2.0 ports"

so are you saying the cables ARE the same ?, only i just found one in my collection that i think must have come packaged with the DVD writer, that has running along the length of it ... "usb shielded high speed cable 2.0 revision (and a long number)".

i reckon next time i have to burn a CD/DVD with this same external writer i shall make dammed sure to use this cable.
