my sisters PC is having problems writing files to a disk.
what kind of info do i need to get to help you all out?

Mighty nice of you to help your sister out. Let's see if we can track down the culprit.

It would be helpful to know:

• If this drive ever worked properly,
• The make and model of the drive,
• Her OS,
• The brand of CDs that she is using,
• If she has changed brands,
• The software that she is currently using to burn,
• What if any other software has been tried,
• Whether there was any soft or hardware installed prior to the player malfunction
• What troubleshooting techniques you have tried to date, ie reinstallation, checking cables etc.

The make and model of the drive, - Mitsumi CR-48XCTE
Her OS, -XP Home
The brand of CDs that she is using, - Memorex
If she has changed brands, - not that I am aware of
The software that she is currently using to burn, - Windows Built-in s/w/Media Player
What if any other software has been tried, - Unknown
Whether there was any soft or hardware installed prior to the player malfunction - None that I can Think of
What troubleshooting techniques you have tried to date, ie reinstallation, checking cables etc - Last resort....

Last resort indeed. LOL.

OK can you please ask your sister the answers to the questions you don't know. Believe it or not, changing brands of CDs can actually cause a problem, also, knowing whether or not she has tried other software to burn can help us determine if the problem is hard or software related.

Also, I forgot to ask if any error messages are popping up, and if you have access to this PC or if you are trying to troubleshoot via phone or email.

I have access to it,

I tried to burn a data CD last night, it said it completed, but I was upable to open teh CD... The total size and free space were identical.

I will try installing different s/w tonight.

Anyone know where i can get a trial of Nero or something similar?
