Default Please help with sony dru-830a drive

I have a prsario 6320us pc by the way ,anyhoot I have installed this thing and it will not work for nothing in dma mode burns here and there in 12 min cant read anything I put in it I put it in pio mode and it burns in 40 minutes and read times for dvd movies are sluggish and skippy can anyone help me.., should also be noted that my harddrive and the drives b4 that 1 ran in dma mode very fast.

Hi dagenius...welcome to the PC Help Forum.
Keep your settings in DMA mode - it's better.


Have you tried burning at lower speeds and tried using different media?

When you say installed-- did you install and rely on XP for drivers --or did you install software with it from disc ? If software installed... did you check online for an updated version ?
Sometimes the boxes sit on a warehouse shelf for months/years before you buy it... may be outdated by a Windows update.

Or you may just have had an install error-- try reinstalling.

everything appears normal , just when I run in dma mode it writes but cant read and in pio mode it does both but really slow in playback and writing the firmware I have for the drive is up 2 date I dont know about other drivers I use nero and acouple other programs but that shouldnt affect the actual performance of the drive if it is a driver issue that can b fixed by updating help would b appreciated in time before I take it back to the store I purchased it

I would try running windows update and see what it comes up with... select "custom install" option and just see what it says you need... if I recall correctly-- there were several CD-writing issues late in last year.

If that does not help you can try going into device manager /select your CD device/click uninstall driver/reboot. Windows will automataically detect/reinstall the drive.

If that does not work I would think it's a defective drive.
