Default DVD disks recordable time

I am new to DVD burning but have been successful burning a movie under 2 hours on a 120 min 4.7 GB disk. Now I have a movie 2 h.5 hours long so I bought a 4 hour DVD + R DL 8.7 GB disk the movie does not fit. What am I doing wrong?

Hi mccboss, and welcome to PCHF!

Firstly, you need to make sure your DVD burner is a Dual Layer burner, if it is, then we can proceed to find out why it's not working.

If it isn't, you won't be able to do anything for you except suggest brands of DVD burners that are good.

Hi mccboss, sorry i haven't replied earlier...

it could be a simple issue of software...what program are you using to write to the dvds? and have you tried any other software?

Make sure you have selected a double layer disk in nero, or in your dvd shrinking program
