Exclamation liteon combo SOHC-4832k DVD/CDRW Drive reads fine doesnt write

hey people,
heres the problem, i have a liteon combo SOHC-4832k DVD/CDRW Drive which is about 8 months old. the other week i formatted my hd and installed windows xp corp (used to be pro). after this it hasnt been working like it should it will read disks fine, no problem. The problem is writing i've tried many different programs (one at a time i may add, uninstalling after ive tried them so as to not cause any conflicts). every time i try to burn a cdr it starts spinning the cdr as it allways did, then it slows it down to a halt and makes a kind of grinding noise, then it starts spinning again, it does this repeatedly until i press cancel on whatever program im using or until the program comes up with an error. on the odd occasion it will do the noise/grinding for roughly about 15/20 minutes and then stop alltogether and start burning, the weird thing about that is i cant actually hear it spin when it starts to burn, i can only see the progress bar on my app that i happen to be using (the last time this happened i burned an audio cd at 48x and it took 22 minutes and 44 seconds ehich is crazy as it used to take around about 2 minutes), and when i reinsert it, it has burned. Ive used a few different types of media to test and all of them have come up with the same results (imation, verbatim etc). ive searched everywhere and the only solution ive seen that i havnt tried is to get a cd lens cleaner or get the latest drivers. but im only 16 and dont have the cash to buy a cd lens cleaner and my latest drivers come bundled with xp and they always worked before. please help me (i pray theres something i can do that doesnt cost me money lol)
cheers for reading and if anyone could offer any suggestions i would be very grateful

Hey Swishboi,

Welcome to PCHF. We have a wonderful team of techs here, who beleive in doing things on the cheap whenever possible. So stay calm, we'll see if we can't get this thing back on it's feet. Terribly sorry about the delay in responding to your post.

First of all, are you positive that you are completely updated?

Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the player?

Have you gone the manufacturers site to see if there are any patches or upgrades?

Have you checked for malware, a long shot, but possible. If you want to rule out malware, run the instructions for PreWork in my signature, and post the two logs back here.

I would also check in my Device Manager to make sure that you don't have any yellow exclamation points.

Looking forward to your reply,

TTFN

LGW
