Default drive not detecting blank disk

when i insert a blank DVD in my drive, my pc fails to detect its there. a faulty drive you may think. but i used to have exact same problem on my old PC, i tried a new drive in my old one, didnt make any difference!. so when i bought a new computer, i thought id left those problems behind me. but its happening again. new computer, new drive, new software, same old problem! is it something im doing, or just a coincidence?

Hey there jamie2006uk and welcome to the great pchelpforum.

Did your drive ever work properly in this new rig or has it been a problem from the start?

Sorry for the delay
  • What software are you using to burn cd's/dvd's?
  • Do you recall installing any software or running any updates prior to the problems starting?
  • Have you installed any codec drivers recently?

You could try resetting the autoplay options , rightcklick youre drive , select properties and then the autoplay tap. Then select "defaults" there.

Or give this autoplay repair tool a try:
