Do I have to use Nero, is there no Windows wizard I can use like I do when I burn music cd's?

About Nero, mine doesn't look like that when I open it, my Nero window is red and I think it's called Nero Start Now or something like that. It gives me some steps to follow and the first is to choose what kind of disc I want to burn. When I go to select it, the best I can get is "Burn a VCD". My brother has the same looking Nero program on his pc and on that same screen he has an option to "burn DVD", even though he has no DVD drives.

EDIT: And are you sure the DVD player and Burner would just show up as one drive under my computer?

Also, I don't know if this is any help, but when I look at the properties of the DVD drive that does show up under my computer, it shows two components. They have sort of numerical names, but in the middle of one it says DVD-ROM and the other says DVD-RAM. The DVD-RAM one is disabled at the moment and when I try to enable it, it comes up saying Windows is unable to do so. Is this something I need to worry about or ignore? Any tips on how to enable it should I need to?

Go back to the DVD-Ram and uninstall it.. And reboot.. Windows will recognize it when you reboot.. You must have an ealrier version of nero then.. You wont be able to burn a dvd with the nero you have.. Or does it say nero start smart? If so you can change it to DVD like this

:-D OK, I'm starting to make some progress. I did what you said and now both D and E drives appear under my computer. I am using StartSmart and I did switch it from CD to DVD like you showed. I think I'm nearly there....


Now, I have the video file, I think it is either an .avi or a Windows Media file, and it is on the hard drive. When I go to make a dvd video on Nero, it says that the file is an unknown format, as I think it only accept DVD movie files and not avi's or wmv's. I tried to drag and drop the file into my E drive like I usually do to burn cd's in a hurry, but it didn't work either.

Any tips?

I tried that program (which came with a toolbar and ads :x) and it didn't work. I couldn't convert the file to the ones that are needed for the Nero DVD burning process. I beleive the file extensions for the format I need were .vob, .ifo, and some other weird one. That Video converter didn't have those as options :cry:.

Maybe a few more suggestions?

ads? Hmm I have it and dont have ad's and pop ups! Maybe it changed in the past 3 month's sorry for that.

Ok question? Are you going to play this on a Home DVD player.. And if so what brand? Toshiba, Sony etc..

Because if your going to play it on a home dvd player chances are a VCD will work on your DVD player..
Just have nero decode it. Takes awhile though

You can remove the "save!" ad-ware trough add and remove programs but SC Free Video Converter wont work anymore after that.
