Default [Answered] cd-rw not recognizing blank disks

I have philips cd-r/rw and am running windows xp. For about a month now I have not been able to burn. I can play audio cd's and software just fine, but cannot burn. It just keeps telling me to insert a blank disk. I have tried numerous brands of disks, I have uninstalled and reinstalled the device, I have tried burning with MMJB,WMP, Real, HP RecordNow and all programs are telling me the same thing. I have done a non destructive system recovery, I have flashed the drive (whatever that means). I have opened my comp and cleaned it out and checked that the cables are all attatched. I have researched the problem everyday for about a week now and am finding many others with this problem, but it seems that none of the solutions have worked for me. The thing that I find interesting is that now when I put in any type of disk, the light just flashes red on the front (it used to flash orange or green, only red when recording) however that doesn't seem to effect playing much, just maybe a clue as to what is happening. My comp recognizes the drive and the recording tab is present. What should I do? As a last resort I will go and buy a new cd/rw but I just thought I would check you guys out first to see if you have any good ideas. I have tried many other things but too many to list or remember. I have a Belark report if you need more info. PLEASE HELP!!!? ?

One other thing..... just an observation and it could mean nothing, but when I click on properties of the drive, it sais that I have 0% free space, 0% used.........is it supposed to do that? If there is no disk in shouldn't I have free space avail?

I know you don't want to hear this but your drive may be faulty - is there any way that you can borrow another drive just to see/test that it isn't a Windows problem?

I kinda had a feeling that might be the case. Well, it is easier to just go get a new one then to spend this much time and energy trying to fix it.

Any recomendations on what might be a good one to buy? I am going to try to find one under $100 if possible.

I found a solution to this problem.
If you have spybot search and destroy it will fix your registry.

I was having the porblem where it you not recognize blank CDs however would play DVD and CDs.

The above mentioned will fix your problem.
