Default [Pending] movies play; no audio

I formatted the hard drive and installed XP after a virus attack. Everything worked great before that.? The problem is that I cannot get any of my media player apps to generate sound whenever I play a movie from my dvd player or dvd player/burner. The video portion of the movie plays just fine on them and, they will play audio CDs. They just won't play the audio coming from a dvd movie. All other sound devices are working properly. I have used this compter for two years and I have never had this kind of problem. please advise thanks internwizard

Welcome internwizard

What software are you using to play the DVD movies ?

Can you check in your Device Manager and make sure there are no conflicts or drivers that haven't been installed. (yellow cirlce)

I have played movies with Microsoft Media Player 10, Nero Showtime, Real Player, and Intervideos WinDvD. In each instance I am getting the same result. Video plays but no audio. I have checked the device manager and there are no conflicts. I have tried selecting "all" audio formats for the players and I have tried making appropriate changes in my Sound Blaster Live settings. I am pretty much stumped on this one.

It could be a really simple issue if there are no other conflicts.

Double-click on your volume icon in the taskbar and make sure that it resembles the attached image.

Did you remember to put your Codec software back onto the PC after you re-built it?

All -in-one Codec Pack
