Default Error Code 19 after installing Burning softwa

Just discovered this and thought it might helpful, it's an easy fix and works about 90% of the time.

situation: Just installed some burning software and after rebooting can no longer use any CD device, in the device manager manager you've got a yellow mark and a problem saying the registry is knackered. ?You may think your ownly option is to either go back to a restore point, or rebuild your system. ?There is another option!!!

To fix this problem, follow these steps:
Start Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe).
Locate the UpperFilters value under the following key in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK.

Locate the LowerFilters value under the same key in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK.

Quit Registry Editor.

NOTE: After you remove the Upperfilters value and the Lowerfilters value, if you notice lost functionality in a particular program, such as CD recording software, you may need to reinstall that software. If the problem recurs, consult with the software vendor for assistance.

Restart your computer.

Note: you may ownly have the upperfilters or the lowerfilters, doesn't matter if you have one, just get rid of it. ?Also you may have to reinstall the burning software after, but it's worth it to get your cd drives back!

As well as code 19, it may well fix code 31 and 32.

I think I found another way to fix this, it involved downloading 'Guided Help' off of Microsoft's website. Someone mentioned having a similar problem on another site, I went through the steps of updating drivers with him - didn't work. Then editing the registry, but thought it would be safer for him to try the guided help first, and his problem went away, he gained full access over his CD/DVD drives.

Roxio EZCD-- by any chance ??

That's why I'm using Ashampoo Burning Studio 6 these days...I got tired of "fixing" Roxio.

Default Re: [Sticky] Error Code 19 after installing Burnin

There is a "devcon" fix that I found at the following link when the High/Low Filters fix did not resolve my issue. It has something to do with a copyright file placed on a system after running some Sony media.

Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39) Barugon’s Cave (^_^)
