Google Image Swirl takes pictures for a spin

The Google Labs team has just rolled out a new project which is aimed at making image search more fun by bringing together technologies used for Similar Images and Picasa Face Recognition.

Dubbed Image Swirl, the experimental image search tool puts together similar images in groups, and each group is shown on the results page as a thumbnail.

Windows Marketplace opens up for WinMo 6.0/6.1

As promised, Microsoft has unlocked its Windows Marketplace for Mobile for users carrying around smartphones with Windows Mobile 6.0 or 6.1. Those in the US can get the Marketplace package (or, better yet, a download link to it) by entering their phone number here, while the rest of the world will need to visit mp.windowsphone.com through their smartphone.

Microsoft has yesterday evening (evening in the US) started offering the Office 2010 beta version to MSDN and TechNet Plus subscribers, enabling them to get a feel of the upcoming productivity suite before the public beta is delivered to users worldwide. Available in both 32 and 64bit flavors, the Office 2010 Beta is accompanied by the 64bit Office Web Apps 2010 beta, the web-based version of Office.

Adobe Systems has just delivered the beta versions of its upcoming AIR 2 and Flash Player 10.1 software. Available for Windows, Macintosh and Linux desktops, the Flash 10.1 beta features GPU-accelerated video and graphics, support for multi-touch, gestures, mobile input models, accelerometers and screen orientation, hardware decoding of H.264 video, and includes integration of content protection powered by Adobe Flash Access 2.0.

Introduced last month to complement the Windows Mobile 6.5 launch, Microsoft’s Windows Marketplace for Mobile has now been updated with a few new features providing more functionality and security. First up, if for whatever reason you’re not using the WinMo smartphone, you can still search, buy and download applications but via the PC from the Windows Marketplace for Mobile website.
