Default Some Advice On PC Cases...

Hello and happy boxing day.

Well I'm here again to offer my advice.

Cases are not so much as a worry as a Power Supplies or CPU's nevertheless they still are important.

Here are some tips before you go out and purchase them...

Form Factors...
Yes I know what everyone's thinking , I know what this is blah blah.....
I'll still say this in case anyone has issues with it.
Form factors are different types and sizes of a MOBO.
Here is an example :
You probably think they are the same? Wrong.
ATX, mATX,
ATX= standard form made by intel, most boards are in this factor.
mATX= Micro/Mini ATX , much smaller , for those small cases , but often have the downside of not having to much space to expand on.
Do you see how irritating it is to find out you got the wrong one?
(One letter can make all the difference , so be careful).
These are just 2 examples of 15/20, so I advise you to read up on the board form factor often found in the manual , and the supported forms in your intended PC case.

Included Offers: Well , I often see Power Supplies included with the Case.
I would NOT suggest you to get these types, because mostly they are generic brands or rubbish brands which just fail in a few days...

There is also the question of Wattage, Most of the time they are incredibly low about 200-300 watts, which should warn you a bit.

(The Minimum Wattage , I mean BARE is 350 Watts , meaning no video cards installations)
Therefore I suggest you invest in your purchase and read up on good brands.
(INVEST in a Seperate Power Supply)!!!

Air Flow and Fans:
Most knock-off cases have no fans or one rubbish 40mm one, which is unadvisable since good air flow in your case is imperrative. It can make a difference from a 23'c CPU and a 36'c cpu. Many people don't understand this but , just because you have a fan on your CPU and Your GPU , does'nt mean that the rest of your MOBO is A-ok.
You see MOBO has current passing through it, building up heat , which if in excess can cause damage.
Therefore I reccomend this in a case:
1.At least 1 80mm fan.
2.Metal case , Not plastic.
3. Expansion ports for a CD/DVD drive etc.
4. A reset button , power button and power LED and a HD LED.
( Yes I have seen obtuse cases with no LEDS or Power button , Although I don't think you'll come across these).

The fans I would reccomend in these positions (if possible):
1. At the front of the Unit
2. At the side of the Unit
3. At the Back of the Unit.

(Oh a fan controller isn't such a bad idea , I never tried them but I am told they are ok/good).

Technical Language
I have mentioned a number of terms which I should explain If your new to this:
1. MOBO= Motherboard
2: GPU= Graphics Processing Unit, basically it a graphic card
3. CPU= Central Processing Unit
4. BARE= core , stripped down, just like a core xbox 360 to an elite.

Your Opinon:
I would like some constructive cristism and give me a score out of 5, which I know sounds wierd but I want to make sure it's a good clear review and that everyone understands it.

Thanks for Reading

Could not agree more. I have just fallen into the trap of a cheap case, the one I ordered was out of stock and the supplier suggested 2 alternatives. Being in a hurry, as it was 2 days 'till Xmas and delivery was tight and coupled with the fact I wanted to build the PC over the school holidays, I had promised to show my 2 boys how everything went together, well I accepted the choice and it was duly delivered Xmas eve. I opened the box and the whole front of the case fell off onto the floor, not 1, not 2 but all six of the plastic lugs holding it on were broken. £20 down the swanny,I just knew I should not have agreed to it but spend in haste repent at leisure. I'm hoping that the supplier will do the honourable thing and refund the cash but a valuable lesson has been learned. You BUY CHEAP You GET CHEAP.

I would like to add for those who enjoy their peace and quiet it's also wiser to focus on a case that is designed to use 120mm fan/fans since they will move the same amount of air at far lesser rpm's ergo they are quieter.

I won't even consider a case that uses 80mm fans.
