Default how to quieten my sytem?

My PC sounds like a vacuum cleaner - which is irritating, what can i do to make it quieter, there are two additional fans ( as well as the Power Supply Unit, processor one and GFX card fan)

the system stays cool even under heavy load.

the spec is;
AMD Athalon 64 X2 3800+ AM2
Asustek M2V AM2 2Ghz FSB Motherboard
Sony 18xDVD+_RW/RAM Dual Layer
AMD athalon 64 X2 3800+ Dual core processor
Corsair 2 x 1GB DDR2 667MHz ram
Innovision GeForce 7300GT 256MB DDR2 128Bit Pci-e,

interestingly the Motherboard has "cool n quiet" - quiet my arse. Whats the thing to do? fan controller? freon cooling?

regards, James

Checkout Zalman. They have a great range of fans and cooling accessories that really do take the db levels down inside your PC case. I have always been prepared to spend, just to get peace and quiet whilst I'm working/gaming etc...

i had the same problem with my old computer, scooshed the every fan and heatsink in the pc with a can of compressed air (you can get it at good pc stores cheap under 10) and there was a huge difference, problem was thought that since i didnt know about pc dust maintenance for the last 2 years, the dust had already collected in the processor fan motor thingy, so if your processor fan is making a loud whirring noise.... get a new one. When you compare my new pc's intel standard fan to the other intel standard fan i realised that its very important to clean your system of dust regularly! But your system looks quite clean, also check if your case fans have speed settings, like on my antec i have a little contoller with 3-speed notches, anyway if you want it quieter turn the speed stting down.

some bios give you the option to lower the fan speed or raise the temp that they turn on. You could try that out if you're already running pretty cool.

Like was mentioned before, check out some ball-bearing fans. They tend to run much quieter. Another thing I do sometimes on noisier systems is cut up an old sweater or something to use as sound deadening. You'd be suprised how well that actually works, but it does tend to raise your underhood temps a few degrees.
