Arrow Fans on/off??

this is my second build, but ive never encountered this....when i flip the switch on the Power Supply Unit(not the power on button on the case) my case fans light up and start spinning including PSU fan not at full speed though. CPU fan remains still and doesnt come on. I thought in that state the power only goes to Motherboard. if it helps all my case fans are connected via molexes and cpu fan is connected through a little 3 pin plug. Any help appreciated.
My specs are:
Case ANTEC Ninehundred
CPU E6400 Core 2 duo
Motherboard EVGA 680i 122-CK-NF68-T1
Ram 2GB Patriot Extreme performance DDR2-800
Power Supply Unit NZXT Precise PRC-650W-AP
HDD 2xSeagate Barracuda 7200.10 ST3320620AS

There are 3 versions of that Motherboard-- I looked at one of the manuals-- there are only two (?!?) fan connectors on that board?
One CPU/One "other" ?
My ASUS is 5 years old and has 4.

Ive counted six 3pin connections on the Motherboard for fans and one 4pin for cpu fan. im only using 2 (Northbridge and CPU connect) everything else is connected through power supply, which has three 2 wire molex connects specially for fans.
Any help is good help, thanx again

I'm no major Gamer... but. Cooling is a huge part of a rig like this.
I would want more fan-connectors on-board, personally. This thing can run up to six SATA Harddrives? Of course-- many Gamers add a separate fan-controller/temp-monitor-- maybe thats the idea. Everyone wants quiet power these days-- but for me passive cooling just doesn't cut it.

Unfortunately-- with the fans hooked to Molex-- they will run when Power Supply Unit switch is thrown. That's why most boards have 3-4-5 fan connectors.

1)so it is normal. i was just wondering cuz a have another rig with an antec 430W Power Supply Unit and when i throw the switch on that nothing but the Motherboard diode lights up.
2) is there a way to convert the case fans that all came with molex style 2 wire to a 3 pin on Motherboard? why the heck they put 3 separate fan connects on the Power Supply Unit if no1 is gonna use them. who the hell wants 6 fans rumbling when they turn the pc off?!

Depends on the Power Supply Unit/maker/internal wiring-- mine ran when I hooked them up via molex. That's a pretty good PSU from the specs-- also that active power monitoring could have something to do with it.
You could email support for the Power Supply Unit Maker-- I can't say for sure if it is normal-- for that model--from that company.
I would not think it dangerous-- just a pain-- which is why I was looking at the Motherboard specs--THAT is strange. I cannot fathom why they would put just 2 fan-connectors on a board with 4 PCIexpress slots and 6 SATA connectors-- each drive would run @ 90 deg F or higher...

Chief-- I was going by the manual-- you should hook all your fans to the Motherboard-- then you will cease to have the problem. That was what I could not understand--LOL. The Motherboard will power all fans easily-- and then when you throw the switch-- you will get just the standby light.

There are adapters for that

Cables Unlimited

or if you prefer-- how quiet were those stock fans ?
Quiet Case Fans - Silent Nexus Fans, Zalman Fans, Papst Fans

No fan is truly silent-- but there are differences. (I have no affiliation with above site --though I have bought stuff there)

Power Supply Unit manufacturer reply:

"Dear NZXT Customer,

Please try changing all the fans to the 4-pin molex and check if the fans function properly. Please let me know if you have anymore questions. Thank you"
---w/e that means
i think i got this down... when connected to 4 wire 4 pin molex fans shut down with the pc, when connected to exclusive fan connector 2 wire 4pin molex fans stay on for a couple of minutes after the pc is shut off i think this is a new tech this to help components cool down after the shutdown. But isve never seen it b4 so if anyone has the same power supply please let me know if you have the same thing happening.
thanx again for all the help

Interesting-- I'll poke around. "Overclocker" forums can be great resources for these "quirks" from different makers. They tweak things to the last detail/review them with each other.
