Okay, I have the computer listed in the title that I aquired today. Very dusty, and I want to examine the parts and possible remove them. I don't see the sense in this thing's design, because the processor's heatsink is in the way of removing the CD drives or hard drive in case one fails. But wait, there's more: even if it weren't there, there are screws on the other side so I can't take them out unless I remove the UNREMOVABLE DRIVE BAYS. Even moreso, if the RAM goes bad, that can't be removed because as far as I can tell, that's right underneath the drive bays and behind the processor. The CPU fan and motherboard main power supply are impossible to remove without removing the drive bays, so I really have no room to work as it stands anyway.

Now I stand imploring you: how can I take apart this **** thing so I can look at the parts and clean out the dust that's piled up like a condemned apartment building? I've been Googling and so far there are no results. I ca take pictures if need be, but I don't think it will help much and it will be a hassle so don't wait for me to post them and if you need pictures please post saying so. Otherwise, please help me.

Okay I got the drive bay out but the CPU heatsink is not wanting to come out.

<B>Edit/B>Okay, got that out too, but the CPU plugs into this big long RAM/PCI-type slot... That's no use if I want to put it in ym new motherboard... What the heck is up with this?!

Thanks. I found a guide on that same site about 30 minutes ago, but for RAM. I now have the motherboard out and I want to get the CPU into my new machine. Check my previous post's edit for my issue regarding it.

It's called propretary development. Sounds like HP was trying to make sure that you could only use thier parts in this machine. That was very popular for a while. Then they realized that it was too expensive to be competetive.

Perhaps one of the other techs is familiar with an adapter of some kind.

I'm not going to even bother trying to find an adapter. Seems to me that the weight of that would be bad for the processor pins. Not to mention that it would take up a lot of space. I'll just wait until I can fork over the $550 for my Core 2 Duo E6700...

...Then the $400 for Vista Ultimate and I can finally run barebones. Maybe.
