Default geforce 7800 power supply

Hello,
I recentlly came into a bfg geforce 7800 gtx oc. I had it in my computerfor a few minutes and then the screen started flickering. I think i burned out my powersupply because the moniter doesnt respond to the card. i needed a 26a current rating for my card. could anyone point me out to a solution for my powersupply or a new one that meets all the requirements on >>BFG Technologies<< <<<--- that page. thanks for any help

souns like a motherboard blowout to me. You could test your card with a differnt card that you know works.

Hi sterex,

Welcome to PCHF.

First find out how much power you actually need. You can calculate this yourself from here: eXtreme Power Supply Calculator - What Power Supply Do I Need

Leave enough power to spare for future upgrades, and age! Then, as an example, try this web site: Custom PC

This one gives you information on the current rating of all the rails on each power supply.

Hope this helps.

thanks for the welcome,
ya, the problem is that i cant see anything on the screen with the 7800 or my 6600 after the screen started blinking and i shut my computer down. the computer im posting on is a pci express not a x16 so i cant test it there either. it happened to me before and it did the exact same thing. last time i just replaced the ps. i need a new one that i can use for my 7800 now and probably a dx10 in the future. ive seen ps with somthing like +12V1@16A,+12V2@16A, and wonder if you can add all thos up to get like 32a or just a sli thing. i need 26a atleast for the 7800. thanks for any help

A minimum 400W system power supply (with 12V current rating of 26A or more)is what it says-- this is not very helpful.
You need to go run the PSU calc and see what your whole system requires. Takes 10 minutes ...tops. Then add 50 to 100w for future upgrades.

How long ago did you blow the last PSU/how many watts and what brand model of replacement did you install?
Have you thought to run a test on your wall socket? Great variations in line voltage can cause PSU problems
They make a lot of consumer-oriented electrical testers now a good hardware store could help/a Home Depot. there are meters that record the line voltage for an extended time (like a week-- you may not need that long)
you hook them up and they do the rest -- you can look for spikes/brownouts --eliminate one variable. Ground testers test whether that circuit is properly grounded. Cost about $3.95
