I have had this wonderful old castiron PC (the flat box NOT the tower) for years that I use to test aps and programs I'm leery of, but now the onboard graphics are going bad and I need to install a pci graphics board.

MY PROBLEM: I've never been able to figure out how to open the case. I've used an external modem so up to now no problem. But now I've got to get inside.

Sounds stupid I know but that's my problem.

Hi Nat,

Not having one of these myself, I can't tell you for certain, but from diagrams, there looks like there is just one screw at the back, furthest one on the top, to the right of the power supply. The case will then lift up, from the back and then slide the last few mm's away.

I removed that screw and it doesn't seem to make any difference.
You might have noticed there is a key lock adjacent, I have always presumed that it was not locked. If it is (and that may be the problem) I can't imagine how I could get a key. Being a product of the 50's I have no idea how I might pick the lock.

I can't see any locks from the diagram I have, but these kind of locks on PC's are only generally to stop somebody to quickly come along, open up the PC and steal anything from inside, I wouldn't use it to store me money in! If you could find something to turn the lock with it may help.

Also, I've been looking on the internet for this model and found two different cases. One as a mentioned above that seems to lift and then slide the last mm off, the other, you have to slide and then lift?

Close - but where the padlock tab is on the illustration, mine has the lock.
I'll bet the lock is locked - I'll try to defeat and let you know.

Well - punch out the lock (screwdriver and hammer) and pulling, pushing, sliding - cover is off.
