Exclamation Press Power Switch, Lights and fans run for few seconds then turns off

Hi i have a problem regarding starting my pc. whenever i try to start my pc the lights and fans turn on momentarily then its cuts out. There are no beeps at all. The green led on the motherboard is on which would suggest that power is running through it. Could it be anything to do with esd or something or is my Power Supply Unit screwed?

any help much appreciated

Cheers

The LED's are powered by very little...infact, a dead Power Supply Unit can supply enough power to run those.

Genie is right...it does sound like power.

i think your computer needs more power, the Power Supply Unit can't supply enough power or somthing, but i'm not sure because i'm not an expert. i have similar problem but when i press the power button nothing happens check my thread to know everything http://www.pchelpforum.com/cases/254...wont-turn.html

I'm having the same problems with my pc. Built it myself a year ago and up until a month ago it ran fine. Then it started being fussy about whether it was going to switch on or not. Maybe once out of twenty presses on the power. Now it doesn't come on at all (or at least not in the last two weeks). I guess I need a new Power Supply Unit but wonder whether it could be the power switch itself. Maybe a bad connection or similar? Any help gratefully received!

it might not be a Power Supply Unit problem. I had this problem before, with a previous computer, I used a different Motherboard and it worked. The PSU works fine. Did you get any errors or any strange problems previous to this? (random restarts, BSODs etc)

Default similar problem

One of my emachine PC's has refused to switch on, i can press it on and use the eject for my cd and dvd but i get nothing on the screen and the light stays yellow. I took the top casing off and everything looks intact!! Is it a minor problem?? Jo.x

Josam: Please start your own threads on your problems instead of posting on others's. It can confuse us.

I hade this problem when i changed my cpu cooler!!! Mine was due to cpu pins short circuit cz some thermal grease touched the pins. Its probably a short circuit and your Power Supply Unit stops giving power. If you've changed anything lately in your configuration his might be the problem.
Even with no computers knowlage u can unplug all the molex connectors (these are the 4 pin connectors that appear most often in your case) and re connect them . If you can go a bit further remove the cpu give it a good blow and place it back. (watch out with conductive grease between the cpu and heatsink as it can be tricky to remove)
I was lucky enough to burn a capacitor on my Motherboard as my Power Supply Unit did not have short circuit protection. ADVISE -----WHEN BUYING VITAL PARTS LIKE PSU'S DONT MAKE THE MISTAKE TO GET THE "CHEAP ONE WHICH GIVES THE SAME WATTAGE" ITS ACTUALLY LESS AND DO NOT OFFER PROTECTION TO YOUR SYSTEM.

hope my post helps

yeah the post got confusing, 1 thing u could take a look at is to see if there is enough space between the board and board tray, actualy a very common problem
