Default [Resolved] I need a new PSU

Hi
I'd like to get a new PSU because the one I have is really noisy. I rebuilt my pc last July because the mobo blew so I now have a different mobo and a faster CPU, but the PSU is the still the same. I'm wondering if maybe it's the wrong wattage for my pc now. I think it's 350 watt.
I have an MSI KM4M-V mobo with an athlon 3000 XP CPU. Also 2 hard drives, 2 cd drives, graphics card and sound card (don't know if this stuff is relevant). What power of PSU do I want to get for my pc? Also does anyone know of a good value silent model, or what dB range is I should look out for?

I tried the PSU calculator and it said I need a minimum of 280W. This seems a lot lower than what I expected I'd be needing.
So I take it wattage does not have to be a specific value for a particular pc? I mean is it ok, for example to get like a 600watt PSU when you actually only need about 350watts? And does anyone know of a good, silent non-expensive PSU?

Default Psu

Hi Dogbiscuit,

I've had a check for PSU's and you should look around for ones like this,

With your specs I would reccomend no less than a 400W PSU so you can expand your system if you need to in the future.
All the best and let us know what happens.

Thanks guys. I checked out both of the above that you two reccomended. Radar, your one has some reviews about them being noisy so I think I'll leave that one. Prinz, yours looks like it could be better, although I have seen a couple myself now. Feel free to check them out and give me your opinions if you like. It's the 2 at the bottom. I know the lights are a bit of a gimmick but what can I say! I have a bit of a blue light theme going on in my pc and feel drawn to them!
I see the Titan one is 550W whereas the one below is 500W. I probably dont need as much as 550W. If I get it would it use up more electricity than the 500W one or do they only draw power from the mains that your pc is using?
