hey again

this summer i noticed that my PS fan died (i mainly noticed from the horrible beeps coming from the machine) now i have to have the case open and a fan blowing on the unit.

the fan is not siezed, i can take a screwdriver, with the power off, and manually spin the fan, but when i try and let it run as it should, nothing....

can anyone give me some pointers with this....

winter is coming and i ddont want to add to the cold by having a freaking fan blowing in my room 24/7 lol

So you had the case open all summer? Silly.

Have you disconnected then reconnected the cable to the power supply, it is possible that it just came loose. Also, do you have another fan that you can pull out and test. Or another cable?

by cable, you mean the power cable coming from the outlet???

i could probally rip a fan out of another power supply in one of my old computer, i just dont like going into the power supply lol

It seems the lead to your fan is dead if the fan is not siezed up. Might be time to get another Power Supply.

If you have another power supply then you can exchange the fans, if you are willing to do this.

Its not too difficult to do.

The fans in the old power supplies used to connect via a two prong connector to the mainboard of the power supply. These days I think it is soldered straight into the board in which case you can simply cut the wires connecting to the old fan and connect them to the new one. Make sure you insulate them with tape or something.

As long as you do this with the power disconnected then you have nothing to worry about, the only thing inside there that could harm you is the capacitors but the pins for those are firmly soldered into the board.

Let us know what you choose to do.

You say that you can spin the fan while the PC is off, try power up the PC and then spin the fan. Does it start working YES or NO?

i can spin the fan by putting a screwdriver in through the grill and it moves that way,

we have used an air compressor, blew into the fan and it wouldnt spin, which i found odd, see how we can move it manually

ill give it a whirl tonight when i get home, if i cant get it working, guess im stuck with my setup now till i decide to upgrade lol
