Default [Answered] Case gets very hot at the top

I've just moved home from uni, and have put my own pc into the little enclosed slot beside my desk

The old pc was smaller, and the new one is in but almost flush to the sides, there is about two/three inches of room above the case and the only room behind is that enforced by the cables sticking out the back

I had it on for and hour and a half last night and noticed it was getting very hot on the top of the case, when i felt behind the case it was at a normal temperature.

I have an Antec 350 PSU dual-fan, a coolermaster Processor fan and also a coolermaster 'jet turbine' thing acting as an exhaust just below the PSU and by the processor

At uni the case had more room and airflow and although was warm the fans did a good enough job, now it now seems particularly hot up top but still ok everywhere else

Any ideas? I thought that some sort of vent/exhaust fan placed above my DVD-ROM (which is currently at the top, but i could swap it down a bay) would be ideal but i can't find anything around

Any help is appreciated

Ben

Are there any holes at all in that little compartment besides your desk?

If not then it is not a good idea to keep the PC in there, basically the PSU fan is going to be extracting hot air from the unit. If that compartment is sealed then there is no where for that hot air to go besides being sucked back into the machine.

I seriously recommend either making a hole in the back of the cabinet (fairly big) or alternatively moving the PC out of the cabinet all together.

There's no back to the desk and it isnt that warm behind there, i wondered if maybe my dvd drive was overheating as that was at the top of the case, and has been playing up a bit recently. Can they get that hot?

Thanks

No I doubt it is the DVD, I should think it would be tied up with the power supply and that could be whats heating up the top of the case.

How hot is it roughly, can you fry eggs on it yet ? :|

How do you feel about case-modding? Do you think you would be able to cut a hole in the top of the case to install an 80mm fan (blowing out)?

No not fry, not quickly anyway. More like radiator hot, it was noticeable as it was heating my leg up nicely.

I'm up for a bit of modding! What do i need to do?

Thanks very much
