I don't have any personal experience in this but in my opinion, yes, this can cause trouble. The fans cool all of your computer's inner workings, if left off for too long the parts can overheat, which can damage the device.

Never done that before either but as spacekid says "If the fan is left off for too long your system will overheat"

Out of interest why do you want to connect a switch to your fan?

You could construct (or buy) a Rheobus - the one in THIS EXAMPLE costs around $10.

Another nice guide for a fan switch HERE

There are also many PC fans that come with speed controllers already attached - not too pricey either.

currently i have 4 case fans, not including the psu, cpu, gpu fans.

so its a little over kill. for normal stuff all i need is 2 case fans.... 1in 1out.

so i was gana put a switch across a removable molex connected to the other 2( in/0ut) fans. and only turn those on during intence gaming, etc.

was writing this wile hengis posted.

thx for the info, but im already aware of fan products that come with speed controlers, or even splicing in a reostat.

i was asking about this inparticular, because i already have all the fans i need, and i have spare parts so i can just splice stuff together rather then buy anything at all. but im not familiar with how tempremental PSU's are, especially with something that uses very little power, like case fans.

i have spare parts, because i had a generic psu arrive DOA that was with a case, so i didnt care about it... if anything ill prolly just take out one of its copacitors to and splice it in seires... i was posting first though incase someone had more experience. cause i was thinking that maybe the fans on/off wouldnt cuase bairly any disturbance as far as the psu was conserned? (with out adding dampeners)

Sounds like you have everything sorted.

As you say 2 fans would be sufficient for running normal stuff.

Give it a go and let us know how it works out.
