Default IO system verification error

As soon as I start up windows, I am greeted with this:

IO system verification error in HIDCLASS.SYS (WDM DRIVER ERROR 22e) [HIDCLASS.SYS+176a at F866076A]

Now, from what I've read, it could be that I have bad RAM. I have the computer running a RAM test now. I could take out the sticks and check (I have two sticks, and windows will run with only one, it's just not plesant).

However, I've also read that sometimes, if you clean the registry, it will clear this up as well. Could anyone point me in the direction of a good registry cleaner, with at least a free trial? I've heard a lot of things offer to clean it for you, but are actually malware (and, let's face it-- I'm not always bright).

I can get into all three kinds of safe mode (that's how I disabled the automadic restart to actually read the error).

I'm posting from my laptop at the moment. Please note that I have been getting IRQL_NOT_LESS_THAN_OR_EQUAL errors on-and-off for a while now, but ignored it as I couldn't track down the issue.

Hi TC,

So, just to clarify, your PC works fine with one stick? Did memtest86 detect problems with both installed?

Memtest 86 (How'd you know that's what I was using? ) didn't find anything on several passes with the "normal" memory map and after about ten hours with the "extended" memory map it was only on test 8 of 15 (I ran 'em all after the basic ones didn't show any issues).

No, it did not start with only one stick. I was going to try it with only the other stick just to be sure, but it dosen't seem like that's the issue. Also, when in safemode (which I am now) it reports the same ammount ram as everything else does, which is also the same ammout of RAM I have installed.

I hope to try one thing with the registry-- I was going through something to "fix" CD and DVD ROM drives from Microsoft. I removed LowerFilters (even though I didn't have UpperFilters) and then next time I restarted this happened.

I was doing This (windows XP instuctions)

I also hope to get a log posted soon. With all my IRQ errors, I diabled logging. I've just re-enabled it for this.

Okay, it seems I don't have a backup of said lower filters.

The "first" registry in .\repair\ dosen't have it, my backup dosen't have it.

Registry cleaners? well, the only registry cleaner we would recommend here is CCleaner, which is free.

But your correct, IRQL_NOT_LESS_THAN_OR_EQUAL is often caused by faulty or misconfigured memory. But it's one of those stop errors that could potentially be caused by a number of things, most commonly compatibility issues between hardware components or drivers. But a couple of logs when you have them would be good to diagnose that one further.

Some systems may require memory to be installed in pairs, which is why you may have had problems testing with one. If memtest86 passed with both sticks installed, it doesn't rule out memory completely, but there's a very good chance it's ok.

The download fix at the top always works best I've found?

I used another one somone recoomended. I may try CC cleaner though.

I had over 2,000 errors it found, now it finds about 20 (some things it says are locked by software and whatnot, and can not be fixed).

My RAM does not need to be in 'pairs' because I had only one stick at first, and then added another. I'm sort of back-and-forth between the BSOD-ing computer and the laptop. But the laptop just loaded so Expect a forthcoming log.

I may try taking out the *other* stick, as my computer is only reporting that I have 256.0MB on startup, which is incorrect. I should have two 256.0MB sticks (after my upgrade) so shouldn't it inform me I have 512.0MB? My logic was "If I have two sticks and know without a dobut that one is bad, and I remove one, if it works I've removed the bad one; If it dosen't I've removed the good one.)

(I feel a little stupid for not seeing this before Having had this computer for so long with onlu 256MB I didn't realise I had more for a few years!)
