Solved: Left 4 Dead lobby and steam crashing

Left 4 Dead keeps crashing on me but ONLY in the lobby waiting for a game to begin. Once I'm the server tho its smooth sailing. This is very frustrating since I have to join existing games and don't get to play campaigns from the start like normal people. This feels rather unfair for me since I have very overpowered pc that can handle all other games on maximum settings.

Also there seems to be a 50% chance of a BSOD if I close steam. I've tried reinstalling both steam and left 4 dead to no effect.

Any ideas?

Hello Serathar, If you get a BSOD again whilst whilst using Steam, could you follow the instructions in the BSOD link in my profile and post the corresponding logs?

This way one of our BSOD experts might be able to pinpoint the problem for you

Hi Serathar,

Quite a peculiar problem you have...

Can you post your complete system spec's please?

Have you checked your graphic card drivers, are they up to date? I have an ATi card and updating my drivers helped me out a lot with random CTD's (crash to desktop's).

Also if you can replicate that BSOD, can you give us the error code? Also posting the minidump file that is included can help BSOD experts here identify what's wrong.

Steam auto-updates itself and all games

What you could do is right click Left 4 Dead in the Steam game window -> Properties -> Local Files -> Verify Integrity and it'll check the entire game folder and make sure nothing is corrupted etc
