Heres the cpu-z report. I noticed the 12v on cpu-z reads that its at 12.5v, i used another program speedfan and it says my 12v is running at 9.87v. Don't know which program to trust more but I'm going to assume its cpu-z. Power supply was the first thing i wanted to check since I'm running an Ultra X3 1000w power supply and I have heard some things about them failing rather quickly.

GPU temperature is average for idle, we can certainly rule this out, especially as your PC had crashed when not doing anything but sitting at the desktop.

I've never heard of Ultra until now, so I can't really comment about it's reliability, but both voltage readings are worrying. As far as I can tell, the x3 should be providing a nice stable 70 amps to the 12v rail. Perhaps overkill for this particular system, unless you had two 4890's running in SLI. Take a look in your BIOS as well (some BIOS show voltage readings as well)?

I got the 1000w because i was originially running 2 8800gtx's in sli, just wanted to be sure i would always have adequate power.

Here are the bios voltage readings
+3.3v = 3.30v
+3.3vdual = 3.30v
+12v = 12.45v
+5v = 4.88v
+vbat = 3.12

my cpu is running at 1.19, it was at 1.25 when i had it oc'd, ram is at 1.85, it was at 2.1v or 2.2v when oc'd which the card sets automaticaly using the sli ready memory function on the mobo.

lol, what a surprise, Speedfan misreports voltages yet again! :/

12.6v is the recommended limit on the 12v rail. If it rises above that for whatever reason, then it could easily damage the card itself. Is there any possibility you could get hold of another PSU to test with?

It's extremely unlikely that the motherboard itself is an issue, but swapping PCI-E slots would be a good idea. Also, look on the board itself for any signs of capacitor leakage, or capacitors that appear fat or bloated.

Unfortunately i do not have a second powersuppply lying around except maybe an old 400w which wouldnt have enough juice to run my computer. I briefly looked over my mobo when i was switching the video cards and i didnt notice anything out of the ordinary although i will check it again. Im going to ask my cousin if her husband has a multimeter to check the voltages on my powersuppply so hopefully he does and we can get a thorough check.

ok no prob's Jeck, thanks for the update. Best to check these over time as well, see how stable these readings are. It's a shame Speedfan is misreporting these readings, as it has the capability of logging these readings over time.

Something interesting has happend. I built a computer for my cousin shortly after i built this one, i used basicly the same components. We are using the same power supply, same mobo same ram but different cpus. He recently replaced his ram because his computer was randomly shutting down on him. Just today he began to get hardlocks while we were playing world of warcraft. My cousin's computer was never oc'd like mine was. I was hoping it might be a bios issue with our motherboards but he is still running the bios that came with the board and im running the p08 bios i downloaded almost a year ago. This just keeps getting wierder and wierder.
