When a BSOD occurs, it creates a log file on the PC. Since Windows is not accessible, the best way to get the log file off the PC is to remove the hard drive, and install it a secondary hdd on another PC. If a repair install doesn't work, you may have to do this in any case if you have data you need to retrieve from the drive.

For a repair install, a similar CD will work. When we say similar, if you have XP Pro, then you need to use an XP Pro CD. XP Home or Media Center won't work for example.

Yes that is what I meant by similar CD program. Well hopefully i don't have to buy one. Vista is really expensive. . . but yea it's a laptop so i don't know how to rip out the HDD and install another. . .

It's fairly easy to take out a laptop hard drive, but you would need to buy a USB caddy. Let's cross that bridge if/when we come to it. I think the repair option is the only place to start.

Totally!! Unless you buy a caddy of course, but then, there's is always a possibility that you would need the install disk anyway at some point. Another option, is to take the PC to a local PC repair shop, where they will have these facilities.
