Operating Systems

Initally I had Windows Vista 64 Bit installed, and had few problems. About 3 months after purchase, I started to get different errors, sometimes my computer would lockup and just restart (I would get a flash of a bluescreen but never enough to read anything). Other times my monitor would just say no signal and i would have to restart to get it back. Sometimes I would crash to desktop from in games with various driver error messages.

Now eventually this started happening when doing little things, like watching movies in fullscreen, playing low performance games in windows mode (navyfield, audiosurf, not exactly big graphics card or CPU killers)

What I have tried at this point

First I tried Driver Cleaner, and got my drivers down to the bare minimum and cleaned from the registry etc. I ran the windows driver verifier to see if I was running any unsigned drivers at this point - all my drivers were signed.

I ran the vista memory diagnostic tool, got 0 memory errors

I reformatted Vista, tried various updates, and even tried removing various updates when that was mentioned to have worked for some people, no luck. Still bluescreening even when watching movies...

I then tried to install XP as a dual boot after vista, got xp up and running and promptly locked up 3 times.

Reformatted again, cleaned everything off both my hard drives and now I am trying to run Windows XP Pro 32 bit as a single boot (which really sucks because it recognizes about a 5th of my total RAM. I will post back if the problems appear to have stopped on this install but I find it unlikely

I do not believe the problem to be airflow or temps, as I have a nicely designed, freshly dusted, cable managed case with the fans on full. Thermal paste was applied evenly and the computer seems to be running nice and cold.

Any suggestions, the obvious and the not-so-obvious, would be appreciated. Im beginning to think it is some kind of hardware problem, which saddens me, hope its not my GTX 295 =(.

Thanks in Advance,
VaSSiLi

Hi VaSSiLi, welcome to PCHF.

Thanks very much for the detail there. Is there any chance you could please follow the BSOD's link on my signature, which describes how to obtain some logs files of these errors.

Also, download and run CPU-Z. Click on the About tab, followed by Registers Dump. You should then be able to upload that file here.

Alright, so I have been doing various reformats and hardware swappings, I've taken out 6/12 GB of RAM (3/6 Sticks), took out my sound card, my SSD (Installed Vista 64 Home on my 1.5 TB Seagate).

So far I have been crash free, but I havent installed any drivers except my chipset so far.

I have this feeling that it may be either the Video card drivers or the video card itself, but im testing out other things before i test the GC. Been running Prime95 all night without a hiccup, temps are acceptable for a C2Duo i7.

Attached is my CPUZ file

I will probably end up getting it to bluescreen later on in the day so I can upload that file for you :P.

Hi Vassili, perhaps it was your previous drivers that were causing these BSOD's, only time will tell I guess.

CPU-Z logs looks perfect at first glance. As you said, temps are good for an i7, voltages are good, and settings appear good too.

Yeah, my first guess was that it was video drivers or video card hardware issue, ive eliminated my RAM and CPU as the problems, going to install nvidia drivers now and i will post my BSOD logs if they occur (hopefully i wont have to )

Hi Vassili,

This may seem like a strange request, but can you try playing this .mov file?

Also, how did you rule out memory exactly?
