Hello, I'm so desperate
In short, somehow I have a quite simmilar screen errors to apollo4090 case, wich you can find the thread here:
http://www.pchelpforum.com/windows-v...-problems.html
Here's my laptop specs:
HP Pavilion dv2680ee with Core 2 Duo 2,2 GHz
2 Gigs of RAM (replaced both the 512 MB RAMs with two RAMs each 1 GB)
NVIDIA NB8M-GS graphic card on-board (laptop Mobo)
160 GB hard disk, partitioned to 5: a C: (Windows Vista), a D: (for data), an E: (HP recovery) and two ext3 filesystem drives for Ubuntu 8.10
I don't remember exatcly when does this problem occur for the first time. But recently, it is getting worse and worse. Every time I started an OS, wether it is Vista or Ubuntu, the screen will get a distortion after 1-5 minutes. The system will hang, or sometimes it reboot automaticaly. In either case, after rebooting the resolution is in a low one, Vista reads it as a 4-bit resolution. And one other thing, the size of the desktop is smaller, so you can see 8 desktops on the screen in the same time.
Everything will be back to normal after I unplug the power for about 10 minutes, but the problem will occurs again and again.
I really don't know what might be the cause of this. But I am a game lover. I tried many games on my laptop. And a game - I can't recall which one - requires the installation of a protective StarForce driver, which is causing a compatibility issue with Vista.
So, as far as I understand, there are many possibilities in my case which cause the problem;
1. graphic card malfunction
2. dual booting vista with ubuntu
3. games
4. my (human) errors
5. other things
I need help and assistance to my issue. I know it's a lot of things that you read in this post, I'm sorry. And sorry too for my english, hope you can understand it.
Thanks in advance for every help and support.
