alright, within 10 minutes of being at the desktop it rebooted to the startup screen, rebooted again... this time to the desktop again....mmmm any ideas?

ps- brand new hard drive... my brother changed it out after he had this problem as that's what he thought the issue was as well.

pps- I've gotten 2 pop up windows messages basically stating that my battery is shot and that I need to replace it. Could this be the cause for rebooting issues?

Well, if it is rebooting, then it is most likely do to a BSOD. ALT+Click My Computer and chose Manage. Then look in the Event Viewer under System for any SYSTEM ERRORs. Or any Errors at all and report back what you have found.

You might need to let it cool down first as it may be a heat issue.

Take a look at this service Documentation for the E1705.

See that no dust is obstructing the fans. Ignore the 9400 as this is the same chasis as the E1705.
