Ok, first stop with the repair option. Second, boot to the recovery console and run a CHKDSK /R. Then if check disk fixes the problem see this post to get your system back up and running. Also see this post on how to get to the recovery console. http://www.pchelpforum.com/windows-x...tml#post310638

Hello,
I have had this problem and it is extremely annoying. You need to repair the registry hive. I forget what the cause is but I personally think it is bad drives/partitioned drives. Here are the steps to fix it: How To Fix The Windows Registry Hive Error - Technibble - A Resource for Computer Repair Technicians & to get PC tech support help. You may want to print off that page or view it on another computer. Follow those steps and the problem will be fixed. I did that once and have never seen the problem again, almost a year after it occurred. NOTE: You can try restarting and sometimes it will load windows. However, this is not a guarantee and doesn't fix the problem. I did this and then one day it would not load Windows at all and I was getting an error message about the registry 100% of the time. Follow the instructions exactly and...have fun ![]() Here is a fix from Microsoft that involves using hte XP CD rather than a boot disk: How to recover from a corrupted registry that prevents Windows XP from starting Any of the above will work. You are going to have to boot to the OS disk to fix this by entering the recover console. You may have to change the boot order in the bios to get this accomplished.
Quick Refs: recovery console; device manager; msconfig; safemode; event viewer; BSOD; manual system restore; CHKDSK; system restore; Prework

If the system gives a BSOD trying to Boot on the OS disk, then check the memory. You can try removing one stick, if you have two and see if it BSOD again. If not then put that stick back in and remove the other and try again. Usually a BSOD on the OS disk is a memory issue, but not always.
