On Win XP for some unknown reason Xp does a system restart at times I'm working on a project and can't sve it while it goes thru the restart routine.
Is there anyway that it can be aborted till after saving all my work.It becomes extremely annoying at timea and really would like to abrt it

Hi Michelle,
Do you get a bluescreen error when this happens? If so then disabling it won't allow you to save your work anyway. Please follow the instructions in the BSOD link below and attach some minidumps if you have them. This way we can try to fix what is causing them in the first place so you don't get them anymore. http://www.pchelpforum.com/windows-x...eath-here.html Last edited by DIIRE; 08-28-2008 at 01:33 AM. |

Michelle you cannot abort a reboot only attempt to fix it.
This could be due to several diffrent issues. Hardware. Power supply unit. Driver issues. Installed some software lately that has caused this. Maybe and infection. Plus a few other things can be added to that list.

it shuts down in like manner as if you told it to yourself no bsod shows up in anyway and it usually occurs while several programs are running in the background no known viruses ot driver conflicts or known viruses usually occurs on video or text edits sometimes an im coming in can cause it to shut down

If you go to C:\windows\minidumps
Are their any files in there? You can't disable restart as such - you can just stop windows automatically restarting if an error is encountered. But you will be left with a frozen system that you will have to press reset button anyway to get running again. It wont enable you to save your files. Check all your temperatures are ok with Speedfan. Overheating can also cause random restarts with no error message. |
