Exclamation BSOD - WindowsXP keeps rebooting

Hello Everyone,

I am a mami of 6 & have all my pictures in my pc for my last 4 children. And no, I didn't back them up - I know I should have known better. But I hope u can see 6 kids I didn't find the time *Sad, Embarrassed Smile*.

Well, lets see this is the situation. First, "knows just enough to be dangerous" partner added a driver to my pc to see if "something" worked and claims he uninstalled it, then within that same week my brother used my pc on the internet w/out scanning my pc when it prompted him too!....I found all this out after the computer started acting very strange. Slow, Freezing, & Restarting...

So I did a scan, saw a strange file scanned by Virus Software & I saw a file C:\FauxVirus\Carny_Ride.exe (the scanner would do an incomplete scan during a full scan, the computer kept restarting itself) So I did only a quick scan & would complete, that is when I found the abve file. But it went unrecognized as a threat. My computer kept restarting. So, I thought it was the abv Virus so I did a internet seach & found this...

C:/Fauxvirus/carny_ride.exe... what on earth is that? - Yahoo! Answers

I followed the instructions used the Super AntiSpywae scanner in Safe Mode, it found a some adware & a virus they were removed. I restarted in Normal WinXP mode it was fine until I was doing the last step "Turn Off" System Restore, Restart & Turn back on.

As I turned OFF System Restore the PC was doing its thing & GuEsS WhAt??!! The PC Restarted itself in Middle - I had no luck in starting in safe mode, normal mode, or last good known configuration. So now I am left with the blue screen:

IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

Technical Information:
0x0000000a, (0x0000014c, 0x00000002, 0x00000001,0x804f1be2)

Can Anyone Please, Please help me. I really don't want to loose all my pictures of my kids, I hve no back up & that is all I have. Thank you everyone for reading I appreciate everything & thank you for your help in advance.

Sincerely,
Sabrina

Can you please follow the prework in my signature, and post it in the appropriate section? Thanks. It sounds like a virus/malware problem definetly.

Unhappy Re: WindowsXP keeps rebooting.....PLSE HELP

I would like to follow your prework, however, I cannot Load Windows XP at all. I cannot run Windows XP in Normal Mode, Safe Mode, Or in Last known good configuration.
It is just stuck in restart not loading Windows XP at all.

The only option I have is to Press F8, I get to my screen that has the option to: "Disable automatic restart on system failure". The system trys to load windows - which it doesn't load & the BSOD appears & reads:

A Problem has been detected and Windows has been shutdown to prevent damage to your computer.

IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

If this is the first time you have seen this Stop Error Screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again follow this step: Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed. If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer for any Windows Update you may need.

If problem continues, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software. Disable Bios Memory Option such as Caching or shadowing.

If you need to use Safe Mode to remove or disable components, Restart your computer, Press F8 to select Advance Startup Option, and then select Safe Mode.

Technical Information:
***STOP: 0x0000000A (0x0000014C, 0x00000002, 0x00000001, 0x804F1BE2)

Is there anything I can do beyond this? I am not sure what to do.

Thank you AW_3_3, I appreciate your time & help.

Sabrina

Hi MaddMatt2006,

Thank you for the welcome & the infomation. You don't know how much it means to me to hear that there is some hope & I can get Windows XP started without losing my precious pictures. Thank you so much for the news. That is such a reassuring relief to me.

I have to look for my pc documentation & CD. I am thinking I only have a restore DVD. Will the DVD serve the same purpose? Or do I have to get an Actual Windows XP CD? Do I hve to buy one or can I use any CD to get the proper files?

Ahhh, I just want to thank you so much again for the piece of mind I needed to get thru this issue with some sleep as I am preparing for the Holiday.

A Sincere Thank you, I appreciate your understanding & help.

The DVD sould be fine to use as long as it gives the option to repair install. What they mean by the PC documention is to tell you have to change the boot order to the cd drive so it will boot off the CD. To do thi s when you first power on the PC tap the Del. key a few times a bios screen will appear in there set it to boot of the CD drive and insert the dvd and it should say press any key to boot form the cd rom. Press the anykey lol and your off and started the repair install

Hi MadMatt2006,

I am so glad to hear from you again I found the Restore DVD and the Book.

The book says, "To preform a system restore operation, insert the DVD, then reboot your system. The recovery application will default to Non-Destructive recovery. If you press "Next", the application will over-write your Windows XP system and leave your data files in place."

I am hoping the above is the same as preforming a Windows XP Repair? When it says it will "leave your data files in place" I am also hoping that means my pictures will be okay too?
-The next paragraph says....

The Non-Destructive mode will often recover systems which have missing files, however sometimes you will want to restore your your system completely to the factory settings and re-format the hard drive. This will ensure that your system is completely restores to the same settings that you originally had when first taking the system out of the box". blah, blah, blah. And it goes on to explain how do wipe out the drive in advanced settings to reinstall the whole system.

I am thinking the Non-Destuctive mode is okay. But I just wanted to be sure, before I go do anything I might regret. Thank you again for your patience & help
