it's a driver error somewhere. go to start > run > sysdm.cpl > startup and recovery (on the bottom) > under 'system failure' untick the 'auto restart' box. Next time it happens write down the error (bet you it's irq_less_than) and if you see anything that ends in .sys, write that down as well.
thanks,
v

OK, it's done. Will advise if/when it occur again.
Suggest you be a little more exact in your directions. You left out a few steps...Thank you for thinking I could connect the dots, but, a novice would probably not have been able to. That's why I have a XP computer set up. So I can refer to it for a step by step procedure for those less experienced. besides, my memory is becoming more like Alzheimer's. I know, it's an easy trap to fall into. Just remember, not everyone possess your knowledge. Treat us more like morons and you'll be closer to the truth. Later...

This...
go to start > run > sysdm.cpl > startup and recovery (on the bottom) > under 'system failure' untick the 'auto restart' box. Should have read... go to start > run > sysdm.cpl > select Advanced tab > under Startup and Recovery (at the bottom) > Settings > under 'System failure' untick the 'Automatic restart' box. When I suggest something, I am never "being facetious". Whatever that means. (where did I put that dictionary?) Especially when you 'quote' something, then you should be exact. Sorry, I'm working as an English teacher now. I tend to pick on things like that. I was better as an engineer. Ah, there's the dictionary...let's see ...facetious. 1 : joking or jesting often inappropriately : WAGGISH <just being facetious> 2 : meant to be humorous or funny : not serious <a facetious remark> You must have me mixed up with Lebowski !

I was a creative writing major, and am now a computer engineer. Thanks for pointing that out, an oversight on my end. Should've marked the advanced tab.
thanks, v

My XP crashed, again.
Since I had modified the setting per your instructions, the computer didn't restart and I was able to record the following.... Cause: Start > Documents > My Pictures. Folder opened. I selected a picture and Right clicked. Selected "Open with >" Microsoft Office Picture Manager ... then, poof...Blue screen. Blue screen data: STOP: 0x0000008E ( 0xC0000005, 0x80592E2C, 0xB59318B0, 0x00000000 ) That's it. There ain't no more, unless your want the memory dump...I don't think so. Awaiting your diagnosis, doctor.
