Hi All,

Recently I've been using Avira AntiVir Personal (Free Edition), as my Anti Virus. Yesterday I attempted an update but found that the update progress bar wasnt moving at all, as well as the program displaying an estimated completion time of 26 hours. My internet connection was fine as everything else was responding normally. Anyways, I deactivated the program after attempting an update many times then uninstalled it (which appeared successful).

I then downloaded the newest release from the official site and installed. upon activating it I noticed that the guard was still set to disabled. Although the option is there to enable it no matter how many times I click it, the program says the guard is deactivated, even though I can still scan etc.

I've decided to go back to AVG, which I've downloaded. However I cant seem to uninstall Avira. I can open in, run it, scan with it, everything but it isnt showing up in the Add/ Remove Programs list. I've also tried Revo, CCleaner and even the Avira uninstaller, all which fail to pick it up. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks, but I've already tried CCleaner, Avira isnt even displayed in the list of programs to be uninstalled .

Have a look in C:\Program Files for the left over Avira folder and dump that.

This issue is possibly caused because of an infection at some point.

I ran the Avira AntiVir Removal Tool, it scanned my PC for about an hour but didnt find anything.

I then ran the Avira Registry Cleaner. After prompting the removal of all components I get an error message telling me that all components couldnt be removed and to shut down all programs. Im assuming this means shut down Avira? Only problem is I cant seem to shut it down, the icon is still in the bottom right and its not coming up on any of my process lists etc. Cheers.

Have you right clicked on it and clicked "Stop On-Access Protection"?
