I purchased CD of adventure games which I'd like to play however I scanned the disk first using Sophos (version 7.6.9) and the report tells me:
It scanned 123 items. No items detected. No items dealth with. No items passed to quarantine.
However, it did find 50 errors. All these errors begin with D:\Autoplay\ ... then either \autorun.cdd or \Docs or \Flash or \Icons or \Images or \Plugins
The error message always finishes with: returned SAV interface error Oxa0040200: Scan failed.
What does this mean? Can I run the CD safely without infecting my pc?
What are error messages? Are they dangerous and able to infect my pc?
Apologies if I've posted this in the wrong area, since my antivirus program detected the error I thought it best to post it here.
Thanks for your help.
Trish

Trish,
I have never heard of a game being coded with malicious software. I am confident you can run it without endangering your PC

I should clarify, it's a variety of games on one CD I bought via a trader on eBay UK. The CD is homemade. I don't understand what the 'scan failed' message I received after my Sophos scan of the CD means. Does this new info make your answer invalid Crush? Do you think it's still safe to run? Would Sophos detect any malware if it was there once I installed the games? Thanks once again for your help. Much appreciated.

I think an anti virus will usually STOP you and ask for confirmation for continuing if there was an issue with the files being loaded.
Is it possible files can't be scanned from the CD, or that some are corrupt? |
