Post Please help somethings wrong i dont know what

Please help.

Everything was running fine until the day i got o2 broadband. I installed the o2 software from the disc and Mcafee wich came with it. When Mcafee decided to update itself i had to restart my pc for new updates to take affect.

After restarting i was shocked to find out that nothing worked. The programs that would open seemed to crash somewhere along the line and my internet browsers also dont work they just dont open at all unless in safemode but then thay dont connect to the internet. Tho some things do seem to connect to the internet like "steam" but msn doesnt.

I have no idea how to fix this as system restore just doesnt open and if it does it just crashes. I cant reformatt my pc either as i havnt got a windows xp cd. Its just so strange how it worked fine one minute then the next its totally F***d

It has to be Mcafee i cant see it being anything else.
I have attached an Hijackthis log just incase its virus etc. related

Thanks

Hello and welcome to PCHelpForum.

Firstly thankyou for your HJT results.

I will move you over to the new HJT Section shortly ready for the security team.

Now also have you tried restarting the machine and repeatedly tap F8 and choose safe mode with networking?

If you can get into safe mode uninstall the latest updates from add and remove in control panel.

I would actualy uninstall that mcafee also.

We can recommend a free Antivirus for you instead of that one,its just a pain in the bottom.

I agree with JB. Let's get macafee uninstalled in Safe Mode and I'll set you up with a myriad of free programs which will do the same job, if not a better one, of protecting you.

Hi, thanks for your replies.

Well usually when something like this happens i search google and i end up fixing it, but this time i cant i dont even know what to say the problem is.

I have booted in safe mode plenty of times trying different things including uninstalling Mcafee while in safe mode but the thing is after i restarted my pc nothing worked including most of the ways to fix problems. And Mcafee kinda removed it self or atleast part of itself. If i go into run and type msconfig i see alot of mcafee services so i disable them but that doesnt do anything. I have done a registry clean and it found alot of mcafee registries but still didnt help. I have deleted Mcafee folder in program files as that was empty and Mcafee doesnt show up in add/remove programs.
It did leave behind McafeeSiteAdvisor tho but i have uninstalled it in safe mode with no success to fixing any problems

p.s. I also booted into safe mode from msconfig as i cant chose any options at startup as im using a usb keyboard and have no others. I managed to get a program called superAntispyware on my pc and scanned it found

Adware.HBhelper (x5)
Adware.Tracking Cookie (x8)
Browser Hijacker.Deskbar (x5)
RootKit.TDSServ (x2)
Worm.Brontok (x1)

They are in Quarantine atm within superAntispyware

I do appreciate all your help, without it i would give up lol (its doing my brain in )

Ok lets try:

Step 1 - Uninstall your McAfee consumer products using Add/Remove Programs in the Windows Control Panel

Windows 2000/XP
  1. Click Start, Settings, Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Add or Remove Programs.
  3. Select the McAfee SecurityCenter product.
  4. Click Remove and follow the steps provided.
Windows Vista
  1. Click Start, Search, type Programs and Features, and click Go.
  2. Double-click Programs and Features.
  3. Select the McAfee SecurityCenter product.
  4. Click Uninstall and follow the steps provided.
Step 2 - Download and run MCPR.exe
  1. Download the removal tool from:

    http://download.mcafee.com/products/licensed/cust_support_patches/MCPR.exe
  2. Click Save and save the file to a folder on your computer.
  3. Navigate to the folder where the file was saved.
  4. Make sure all McAfee windows are closed.
  5. Double-click MCPR.exe to run the removal tool.

Note: Windows Vista users must right-click MCPR.exe and select Run as Administrator.
  6. Restart your computer after receiving the message CleanUp Successful.

Your McAfee product will not be fully removed until the system is restarted.
Or:

Download one of these software programs, they are both very good and I use them.

CCleaner.

Revo Uninstaller.

Please read the instructions before usage.

Please note Revo Uninstaller doesnt work with a 64 bit operating system.

Or even a system restore to before you installed the software.

However by the looks of things you need the Security Team to help you with a cleanup of any malware present.

Try above and Security will take over for you and give you help.

Thanks man, i couldnt follow step one as i had no Mcafee programs in add/remove but i did step two and everything started working. I dont understand how Mcafee could stop almost everything on my pc working but it did and now it all seems ok. Thanks again.

Tho everything seems ok i will update this abit later just to make sure.

That is brilliant.

Now I would personaly stay away from McaFee.

Many of us use this:

AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition - Free software downloads and reviews - CNET Download.com

There is no rule saying you MUST have McaFee installed.
