So I did a scan on my backed up files last night and Avira found 21 instances of:
TR/Crypt.U.Gen Trojan
Now 21 seems a little high but the weirdest thing is that they are all for legitimate applications that as far as I'm aware never have had any viruses. Is it possible for Trojans to infect other .exe files?
For example, the files are epsxe.exe (Playstation emulator), memmanger (memory card manager for epsxe) and even Irfan View (iview.exe).
Even Hijackthis.exe and Virtualdub.exe have been flagged as viruses. They are all in quarantine now. Would it be okay to take them out and install them? Or should I try downloading them again?
Thanks.

Amtech it has variants of the TR/Crypt.U.Gen Trojan.
So 21 would appear correct. Due to varients then yes you possibly have other infected files on your computer. You possibly have redirections to sites advertisments but not always. Possibly a DNS changer. I am no Security expert but you appear to have an issue there. Here have a read: http://www.trendmicro.com/vinfo/viru...L%2EKS&VSect=P
