Default Virgin pc broadband advisor help please

Hello folks,
Im a newbie to the site and i like what i see.

I would like someones advice please. I had pc guard (virgin media's own anti virus security suite) installed on my computer and have tried to remove it.

I have removed most of it but part of it remains.( Broadband advisor)
When i click on uninstall i get a warning saying Crogramfiles\virginbroadband\advisor\unins000.da t does not exist

In program files this all appears to be there. so i dont know why it doesn't recognise the fact that it is there.

Any help on getting rid of this please.

Kev,

When a program is deleted in the manner you deleted it in it leaves behind registry entries, and program folders. You can try downloading this to kill it off:

Run CCleaner
  1. Please download and install CCleaner Slim.
  2. Once installed, double click on the desktop shortcut created.
  3. On the Windows tab, leave the default options alone.
  4. On the Applications tab, check (tick) all the boxes except Saved Form Information. This will remove all your saved passwords if you leave this box checked.
  5. Click on the Run Cleaner button at the bottom right hand corner.
  6. Close CCleaner.

Note: You can use CCleaner on a regular basis, to keep your hard drive clean of temporary files and clutter. I recommend running it once a month.

I am in fact, quite cool. My graphing calculator confirms this

Thanks for your advice Crush but unfortunately this did not work.

When i used ccleaner to try and uninstall pc broadband i get the dreaded beep and the message "C:\programfiles\virginbroadband\advisor\unins000. dat" does not exist cannot uninstall.

Initially when i first started this i did go down the correct uninstall route but it didnt work. i then contacted virgin who were very helpful and did manage to get rid of pc guard but said that pc broadband had uninstalled but it didnt realise it. They suggested Reg cure which i used but this wasn't at all effective.
I used ccleaner which i must say i was most impressed with. But this was unable to help.

I havent a clue what my next move is.

Any help will be much appreciated.

Hey Kev,your broadband cannot be uninstalled.

When you use the Virginmedia disk to first get your internet up and running, what the disk does is setup your modem.

Then what happens if you then disconnect your maincomputer from the modem and then replace that with another computer, just reboot modem and the new computer your broadband should work.No need to keep reinstalling the broadband using the disk on each new computer.

PCgaurd is a pain and is not needed.

When you say your boradband is uninstalled do you mean you cannot get online? What is the issue?

JB.

Hello Jelly bean,

Thanks for the reply. What happened was i was getting the internet through my tv box. Then the computer motherboard died and went to the shop.
He reloaded xp on the computer but no anti virus. I had pc guard before and it worked fine. I went to reload pc guard but it wouldnt accept it. Virgin said i needed their modem which they sent through the post (for free). I set it up with the new disc with a little help from virgin. They then said all i had to do was download pc guard from their site.

I did this and it appeared to install ok. I then had to select the free or paid service. i wanted the free service but it wouldn't let me select this. So i tried the paid and i couldn't select this either.

I rang virgin and they suggested i uninstall and re-install. This is where it all went a bit wrong. i went to add\remove programs and selected pc guard to uninstall ( when you install pc guard it also installs broadband advisor).
This came up with unable to uninstall as did broadband advisor.

Virgin took me to site which managed to get rid of pc guard with their software but not broadband advisor. This is when they said they could help no more and suggested i paid someone to help or get reg cure.

Now i get a message coming up all the time saying Cant find broadband advisor.

Go to uninstall and you get the message about the Dat000

Any ideas please.

You do not need the broadband advisor either.

Try this to rid yourself of this rubbish:Revo Uninstaller - Free software downloads and reviews - CNET Download.com

Virgin are not very helpfull. There software is like a germ and clings to your system.

Does the broadband advisor show in add and remove?

Do you now have an antivirus program?
