Hi,

So I downloaded a file from a usenet group so I could sync my laptop to my cell phone, double-clicked the setup.exe file and the file instantaneously disappeared. It's not in my recycle bin, nor does it conspicuously show up through a full system search of the file. There is no discernable perfomance loss and no visual oddities of any nature as far as I can tell.

I followed the prework instructions with anti-malware and hijack this and came up empty.

I should mention I ran the setup.exe file initially before clicking on it on two separate online virus scan aggregators and it came up negative.

Has anyone ever experienced anything like this? Seemed kind of silly for a virus/malware to present itself in this fashion by just disappearing. And yes, also quite silly for me to run it. Any advice on how I should proceed? Thanks,

It's a new one on me I wonder if anyone else has ever come across this...

Forgot to mention the file was a 10 hour old post on usenet, so perhaps virus definitions weren't up to date. I've been zealously refreshing my virus definitions in my Avira program rerunning full system scans...still nothing.

There's a lot of suspect binaries on the Usenet, you have to very careful what you download...
