I picked up the CyberlogX virus from a Facebook link several days ago. Since then I have run SpyBot, McAfee VirusScan, SmitFraudFix, and something else that I can't remember. Either way, all the infected files have been removed and the fake pop-up warning messages are gone and the computer functions fine. But, IE and Mozilla will only run in the background. They show up in the Processes tab of the Task Manager and not the Applications tab. If I doubleclick on the icons to get those started, the hourglass comes up momentarily and I still only see my desktop and the internet connection has not been established. Any thoughts?

I'll take the view that you haven't rid the PC of everything and should follow the PreWork link as below & let the Security Team have a look.

Thanks guys...I joined a few forums in the past few days to cover as many bases as I could. If this helps anyone, I used SuperAntiSpyWare and it found some proxy bugs/settings that were corrupted and SAS did the job. IE and Mozilla are back up and running....

elpmek:
When I ran the SuperAntiSpyware (SAS) it found 41 other 'detections' that SpyBot, SmitFraud, McAfee, CCClener, and SpyWare Doctor did not. A few of the file names were 'proxy.....' that were listed. After those were deleted and res-setting my Mozilla connections to 'Automatically detect and inernet connectection' everything was back to normal. So, apparently CyberlogX not only corrupts files but also changed some proxy setting as well. Not sure why SAS caught this and none of the others did but it did it. Hope this helps some folks... |
